your trip to Iceland!

So you’re visiting Iceland and getting all excited. Rental car and accommodations are booked, tours are planned (Hint: The awesome Reykjavik Food Walk and Pub Crawl) and all the extra clothes you can carry, packed nicely in a newly bought and very colorful backpack. You are READY… well almost!
To make the most of your trip we recommend that you get your phone “Iceland-ready” aswell! The right apps can carry you a long way as a useful tool around the country. We at Wake up Reykjavik would like to share with you few apps that we think can make a big difference on your visit to the land of fire and ice!
1. Appy hour
The puurrrrrfect app for all budget travelling-, beer seeking-, party lovers! This little gem holds all info on daily happy hours in Reykjavik so it’s very useful if you want to safe a few Króna and check out some cool nightlife spots.
You’ve seen our yellow buses strolling around Reykjavik! With this app you can see which bus goes where, it’s exact current location, where the next bus stop is and also purchase tickets with a card (Note: you can’t buy bus tickets with a credit/debit card inside the bus). It’s both free and can safe you a lot of time from waiting for a bus in the cold Icelandic weather!
3. Hreyfill bæjarleiðir
We don’t have Uber – next best thing is this handy taxi app where you can order a taxi with only few clicks! It also shows locations so it saves you from awkward attempts of trying to pronouncing long Icelandic street names like ‘Skólavörðustígur’ for example.
We barely need to introduce this brilliance to the average modern mobile user. It’s Tinder. For the fact on how small our nation is, there is above 70% chance you will actually bump into one of your left swipers and bond. It’s a good tool to meet locals, have fun and make lifelong lasting friendships.
5. 112 Iceland
We recently discovered this one and think its absolutely a must have for everyone visiting Iceland or even locals as well! This one sends location to our emergency number if you ever get so unlucky to get cought in any trouble. Unfortunately, there are travelers every week that get lost or hurt either in our weather conditions or in our wild nature so this one can make a huge difference!
BONUS APP: Pokemon Go
Myth says that our glaciers and volcanos are home to some of the most rare Pokemons out there! We are already witnessing groups of people following their screens to the weirders corners of our city or out in the middle midst of icelandic wild nature, trying to catch’em all! A cool app to have on your phone and especially if you’re roadtripping around the country and trying to spot some rear onesJ But we do advise you do not drive and play J
