Tour description
Get ready for a two-day epic adventure where we dive into the heart of Iceland's stunning southeastern sights, including a journey to the magical Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and an unforgettable Ice Cave expedition.
WHY I THINK YOU WILL LOVE THIS TOUR! 🧡
As an Icelander, I think that everyone should see the Glacier Lagoon once in their lifetime and experience being in an Ice Cave, but the tricky part is that these sights are so far away from Reykjavík! And that is why, this 2 day tour is the perfect way to do this!
Not only do you see the Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach but you get to visit and walk into a natural Ice Cave formed inside the largest glacier in Europe. How amazing does that sound!? Plus you get to see all the major sights on the stunning South Coast of Iceland!
This two-day excursion exceeded ALL expectations and was the highlight of our trip by far. Pick up from the bus stop in Reykjavik was straight-forward and easy. The best parts for us were seeing the Northern Lights, Skogafoss waterfall (rainbow and all), and Reynisfjara black sand beach. This tour encompassed just about everything we wanted out of our trip to this beautiful country.
We don’t normally like organised tours and do most of our travelling independently but the distances driving in winter made us opt for this one and it was worth every minute! There were long bits of driving but our wonderful guide kept us well entertained with his knowledge of his stunning country. He got the balance of fascinating information, music and stops just right so that we were always comfortable. We really appreciated going to Diamond beach in the evening and comparing it in the day. The ice cave under the glazier is truly magical and the highlight of the trip for me. With a nice group and a genuinely friendly local guide, it couldn’t have been better.
Amazing tour. Perfect itinerary paired with an awesome guide. We had ample time at each location and the itinerary was well planned. For example, on the second day, we started out early for the ice cave which meant we missed the crowds. The photos I took on the sights offer almost an other worldly experience, simply stunning!!!!! Although the sights are amazing, it was really our guide who made the tour unforgettable. He is very passionate about Iceland and very knowledgable on....quite frankly everything! Explaining geology, history, flora and fauna, folklore, meteorology in a really engaging manner. Throughout the whole tour, he was enthusiastic, considerate of individual tour group member’s needs and very thorough in safety briefings, where required. We had treacherous conditions, but our guide’s driving was incredibly safe. Weather also caused delay to our itinerary, but he rejigged the second day to ensure we still got to see all the sights without being rushed. We had another local guide at the ice cave, who was also very friendly and knowledgeable. They worked very collaboratively to provide a seamless tour. In addition to telling us everything we needed to know about the sights, they helped with some top tips for photos!

- What if the weather is bad during my travel dates, will that effect my tour? The weather here in Iceland can vary, so should the conditions not look favorable for the tour our partners would reach out to you and try and offer an alternative date, should you be unable to join at another time you would get a full refund! Due note that all ice cave and glacier tours are completely dependent on weather. Sometimes ice cave tours have to be cancelled at short notice due to strong winds or warm, wet weather which can force the ice caves to fill with water. If we are unable to visit the planned ice cave due to conditions we will attempt to visit another if conditions there are better. If ice caves are unavailable then we will attempt to go on a glacier hike if weather conditions allow that. Yours and our safety is our top priority, so we will only go on a glacier hike or ice cave tour if conditions allow us to do so safely.
- What should I bring with me on this tour?Lunches and dinners are not included, but we will stop at places where you can purchase them additionally! You are allowed welcome to bring your snacks and drinks. Also be sure to bring along waterproof jackets and pants for the unpredictable Icelandic weather. You must also have strong, waterproof hiking boots that go above your ankle in order to wear the crampons (spikes) that are required on the glacier. Hiking boots, waterproof jackets and pants are available to hire, free of charge, but must be reserved ahead of the tour to confirm availability. Make sure to order in the booking process!
- What do we do for food on this tour? The only food included is the breakfast at the guesthouse the morning of day 2. We will stop in the south coast town of Hvolsvöllur on the first morning to load up on snacks for the first day. You can shop here or bring food for the day to spend more time at the sights during lunch. However, there is ample time to have lunch at Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach Restaurant too. Lunch is not included in the price of this tour. There will be a chance to buy snacks ahead of the ice cave tour, as well as get a late lunch afterward. You can also buy dinner at the guesthouse.
- How much luggage can I bring with me?One small carry-on luggage is included per person: For your convenience and safety, we recommend packing lightly for this tour, using a small suitcase or backpack. If you have larger luggage, please check with your accommodation about luggage storage during your tour. If storage isn’t available, we can accommodate your luggage on the tour bus for a small fee.
- Can I rent waterproofs and hiking boots? We suggest bringing warm, waterproof clothing and sturdy hiking shoes. Rental options for hiking shoes are available during the booking process.
- Where do you pick up and drop off? Can I be dropped off outside the downtown area?Due to traffic restrictions for tour operators in residency areas in Reykjavík, we are unfortunately unable to pick up directly from some accommodation and hotels and must use designated pick up locations provided by the City of Reykjavík. If you are unsure which one is the nearest pickup location to where you are staying, please just let me know the name of the hotel or address and I can assign you the nearest pickup point.
- What if I think I am not physically equiped enough to do the Ice Cave?No worries then! The ice cave tour is not a mandatory part of the tour. It’s possible to wait by the glacier lagoon and café if you are uncomfortable going on the ice cave tour. If you are unsure if you would like to join the ice cave tour, please contact us ahead of booking.
