The tour takes you to experience the warmth and light from a bonfire, as well as seeing a fireworks display.

Going to a bonfire is a very local thing to do and most Icelandic people will have fond memories from their childhood of going with their parents to bonfires before heading home to watch the yearly NYE show and finally lighting fireworks at 00:00, to "blow-in the New Year" as we say.

Experience NYE like a local!

Bonfires are an essential part of the Icelandic New Years Eve celebration. During the cold and dark winter months, the warmth and light from bonfires, and the spectacle of lighting up the sky with fireworks, are extremely welcome - and on this tour you get to experience both.

Make sure that you are still awake at midnight since that is when Icelandic people go out onto the streets to light up all their fireworks. It's a magnificent night to experience.

You will start by getting picked up from your pickup location (available to pick via drop menu when booking), 30 minutes prior to departure. The tour is around 2,5 hours in total, from 8pm to 10:30pm. At around 9pm there will be a fireworks display - a little taste of what is to come at midnight.

This is a tour that you should not let go by you if you're staying in Iceland during New Years Eve!

This tour is only available on December 31st so rescheduling is not possible. If anything changes with your travels and you need to cancel, we offer a full refund if cancelled with more than 24 hours notice.

Aurora is always a game of chance but our guide Arni may have made them come out by sheer willpower. He was super optimistic and kept going until we saw them, which was amazing. Just when everyone truly lost hope we got to see them. Arni made sure we all got enough time to see them, even if it made the trip go past its usual time window. This tour was awesome (the hot choc was also a great treat while we waited).

Wow - there’s no better way to dine like a local but to be with a local!

Our guide, Ben, was that perfect local who gave my family and I a taste of Iceland that was packed with fun, laughter, and of course, food! We had such a wonderful time spending the evening meeting and dining with 8 other strangers who became more like old friends as we “restaurant-hopped” our way around town. Ben is equally personable as he is knowledgeable, and his humor kept us laughing throughout the entire evening!

The food selection was authentic and delicious. While the Arctic char was my personal favorite, tasting fermented shark alongside my fellow adventurous foodies was the most fun for sure. Thank you, Ben, for making this a highlight of our first visit to Iceland!

I am someone who generally loves food tours and this one did not disappoint! Our guide Thor was absolutely amazing and made us feel very comfortable and relaxed. Fantastic food, you will be full for the rest of the day after the tour. My dad who hates the idea of food tours begrudgingly came with us on this tour. Afterwards he raved about it and said it was amazing! I have two kids approximately 10 years old, they both loved the tour!

Dagurlar was a wonderful guide! He was both funny and informative. We enjoyed both the food and the information he provided. The food was so good we actually went back to two of the restaurants we visited. We take food tours quite often and we have NEVER gone back to two restaurants before! Fun and YUM!

What can I say / this food tour is honestly one of the best I have ever been on! Our fabulous tour guide Dagur made the whole experience a strong 12/10. The restaurants that we went to was a perfect way to have a taste of all of the fabulous local cuisine Iceland has to offer (including fermented shark haha). Would definitely recommend booking in for this food tour / it is a lovely way to start or end your time in Reykjavik!

What a great tour with an amazing guide, Ben. There is quite a bit of walking but we got a breather at each stop to taste some amazing food and drink. Ben was just great from start to finish, we were part of a small group, just the 4 of us and Ben but this made it even more enjoyable getting to know each other and share this amazing experience. All the food was lovely, we even did the fermented shark which was not as bad as expected so give it a go if you can. The tour lasted approx 3 hrs and was definitely worth the money due to the amount of food and some drink included, the rest we brought ourselves. A great tour with a great guide, well worth the money and definitely recommend.

WHAT A NIGHT!! The NYE party at the Petersen Suite @ Gamla bíó was definitely the place to be for NYE in Reykjavik! The location was simply amazing and the Wake Up Crew welcomed their guests very warmly and made sure everybody had a great time. Meeting people from all over the world, dancing all night long and enjoying delicious drinks from the bar made this special night of the year even more special!

Amazing NYE party!!

For a quick summary let me say that Wake Up Reykjavik had the friendliest, most communicative team that is clearly and earnestly dedicated to providing a great experience, whether it was the amazing food tour we took or the EPIC NYE party they arranged.

The party was at the Petersen Suite which was gorgeously decorated and had a great rooftop from which to watch ALL the fireworks. NYE in Reykjavik books up for restaurants fairly early and drinks can be expensive, so having this option booked where we got 3 drink tickets and a healthy amount of bubbly was, in my opinion, the best option. Easily one of the best NYEs I've ever had and I'm thinking about coming back for next year...

Bottom line: I would do it all again! All my best to an excellent team! I hope they continue to do the NYE party and expand their tours even further to give everyone the local feel of Reykjavik.

A 6 on a Scale of 1-5, DON'T MISS OUT!

[...] Where to even start?! The second we stepped out of the elevator, we were greeted by Dan, one of the owners of Wake up Reykjavik, who was dressed to the nines in a blue suit and welcomed us with open arms. This was the case for us and every person after us. You could tell he was genuinely excited to have everyone there and was proud of their event.

Which brings me to the next great thing...the views for the fireworks were unrivaled. We had 360 degree views of all of Reykjavik and clear views of the Church for the firework show. The fireworks can't even be described- you see explosions in the sky as far as the eye can see. It's really something not to be missed.

All in all, we had an amazing time. These guys are truly professionals and are down to earth good people. If you're looking for a great time in nightlife or any Reykjavik tours- they are your go to guys. We are looking forward to booking with them again during our next trip here. [...]
